The Tommy Coyle Boxing Academy

The Neil Hudgell Trust has been long-term supporters of Hull boxer Tommy Coyle, providing sponsorship for Tommy as he started out in his career in the ring and continuing to work and support him as he has given back to the city by opening two boxing academies, aimed at encouraging young people off the streets and into regular exercise and healthy living.

We teamed up with Tommy to launch the first academy in Bean Street, West Hull in 2014, before joining forces with other local businesses, including The Sewell Group and Hull Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) to open a second academy in Geneva Way, East Hull.

Both academies were made free for under-17s to be members – a unique offering only possible thanks to the goodwill and financial support of all those involved.

The academies are now run by the Tommy Coyle Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation which aims to inspire young people and adults in the local community through the health and wellbeing benefits of physical activity.   The academies also deliver a number of programmes and fitness sessions such as adult Box-Fit classes, the Box Clever school programme, personal training and private group fitness bookings.

Tommy Coyle, who is patron of The Neil Hudgell Trust, said: “The support I have had has been absolutely tremendous and has helped me be able to do something special in my own city. The sight of the two gyms full of young people each and every week is remarkable, and would not have been possible without the support of the Trust from the start.”
