East Riding Electric Eels is the East Riding’s first Powerchair Football Team.
East Riding Electric Eels is the East Riding’s first Powerchair Football Team. It was established last year and officially started in January 2013 by Andy Fox whose 9-year-old son Charlie is quadriplegic through cerebral palsy. For two years, Andy took Charlie to Leeds to play Powerchair Football before deciding to set up a new group in Hull.
The funding from Neil Hudgell Solicitors will contribute towards the costs of purchasing two specialist power chair football chairs, 10 bumpers, some balls and goalposts.
The project benefits disabled people by providing an opportunity to get involved in sports activity through Powerchair football. The Eels currently have nine players but with the additional equipment it will enable the club to increase its membership thus get more disabled people in the Hull area involved in sports activity.
Coach Gemma Thomas said: “This means a great deal to the Electric Eels, the funding will go towards equipment so that the Eels will be able to train safely and more regularly and also take part in fixtures.”
The new season is about to start and round one of the WFA cup is fast approaching. Exciting times ahead for the Electric Eels – here’s to a fantastic season!
