Serious injury compensation

When somebody suffers a serious injury it usually impacts hugely on not only the individual, but the lives of their loved ones as well.

This is why we tailor our support not only to those who suffer life-changing injuries to regain independence as quickly as possible, but also to those close to them.

Our serious injury support pledge

Our serious injury support pledge

At Hudgell Solicitors we have a reputation for assisting in every possible way we can, from offering help to ease immediate worries such as work and family finances to pressing for the most suitable immediate and long-term treatment and rehabilitative care.

We have a track-record of securing early interim damages payments, helping ensure the earliest implementation of vital treatments, as well as covering the costs of essential home adaptations.

As part of our serious injury support, we pledge to offer all of our clients and their families:

  • Immediate practical help – Dealing with issues from speaking to police, insurers and employers to assisting with probate.
  • Medical assessments and treatment – We will work to arrange rehabilitation and mental health support.
  • Buddy support – Where we can, we introduce clients to ‘buddies’ – others who have suffered similar injuries.
  • Financial assistance – We always seek early interim payments to provide the support required, and signpost clients to charitable funds.
  • Pro Bono support – Our lawyers are willing to use their expertise and contacts to make life easier for clients beyond the case, from helping with benefits appeals and employment advice to inquest representation.
  • Long-term support – Not only do we focus on securing the highest possible damages, we also provide access to independent investment advice to ensure damages have maximum positive impact.
  • Charity support networks – We also have links to many organisations set up to provide more personalised advice and support across a range of areas including financial, emotional, physical, rehabilitation and medical needs.

I contacted hudgell solicitors after the ITV drama Mr Bates Vs the post office and explained that I had already settled my claim two years previously but didn't realise the severity of the situation and asked if I had a claim. I was advised that I did have a further claim against the post office after it has all come to light how unhanded their practice has been. Hudgell has kept me updated all the way and I'm pleased to say I have now received the rightful amount of claim. Thank you to all the staff who have helped me and I hope to see further justice for Mr Bates and all like him. 20 years has been a long time to wait.

What is a serious injury?

A serious injury is likely to be life changing and is often referred to as catastrophic, resulting in you having to rebuild your life and potentially changing it forever.

Our aim is to do all we can to help you achieve the best possible quality of life, working to secure you the compensation that will prove vital in helping you on the road to recovery.

Who can claim for serious injury compensation?

If you have been left with a serious injury in an accident that was not your fault, you may be entitled to compensation – contact our friendly, knowledgeable team of lawyers today and they will explain how to make a claim.

At Hudgell Solicitors we have an expert team of serious injury lawyers with vast experience of handling claims cases relating to serious injury caused by accidents that were the fault of another, dealing with claims such as spinal, brain and amputation.

We will tell you immediately if we feel you could have a claim to pursue, and our expert personal injury solicitors will guide you through the process in a friendly, supportive and easy to understand manner.

We helped brain injury survivor Paul Spence establish his own charity to run a community-based a support centre.

Paul now supports our clients by helping them reach their recovery goals, and by advising our legal experts and rehab providers to ensure they have a better understanding of their needs from the start. Watch “A Story Of Hope – The Road to Recovery Following Brain Injury“.

How much compensation will I get for a serious injury claim?

Claiming compensation for a serious injury is a complex process, where the amount awarded will vary on a case by case basis. Fortunately, we handle cases like this all the time so we have a track record of dealing with compensation claims efficiently and successfully.

However, because of the long-term impact on a victim, the final settlement will often be a lot more substantial than an average personal injury compensation claim and may need interim payments to help support victims in their recovery.

The compensation awarded will reflect the pain and suffering which has been endured, alongside initial costs incurred and potential future losses as well. This may include costs for rehabilitation, nursing, home adaptations or specialist equipment as well as transport requirements. If the injured person was unable to return to work, the loss of future earning would also need to be factored in to any settlement.

How can serious injury compensation help me?

In all of the serious injury claims we take on, we will seek compensation to reflect the following areas:

  • Your pain and suffering.
  • Your loss of income.
  • Your future job prospects.
  • The effect on the quality of your mobility.
  • The effect on your quality of life.
  • Physical and psychological damage.
  • Ongoing costs of private medical treatment.
  • The cost of adapting your car or home in the event you are left physically disabled.

Compensation can help towards medical treatment and help relieve the financial stress that a serious injury can often cause to both the individual involved, and their families. It can also can help you recover loss of earnings, both now and in the future, including any vital adaptations that may be needed to your home to live more comfortably.

Our caring approach to legal advice allows us to give our clients a great deal of time and commitment, ensuring you get the best possible outcome in your case. We focus on getting you the compensation that will make your life easier and more manageable.

If you’ve suffered a serious injury, or are acting on behalf of a family member or friend who has been left badly injured, we know you need not only sound legal advice, but support, sympathy and understanding about the impact the injury has had on your lives.

We also have strong relationships with care providers, rehabilitation experts and medical advisors who will all strive to help you and give you a better quality of life following your injury.

Why a Grant of Representation may be important in compensation claims?

One issue that often arises in a compensation claim involving a deceased person is that they did not leave a Will. In such cases their surviving spouse or dependants may need to obtain a Grant of Representation before a medical negligence or fatal accident claim can conclude or sometimes even progress.

However, it is important that the right person applies for the Grant of Representation. Read more here: What is a Grant of Representation and why are they important in compensation claims?
