The increasing number of both vehicles and cyclists on the UK roads is resulting in more accidents and casualties each year.

Cycling is an enjoyable, healthy and cost effective way to travel, with more and more people taking to the roads on their bikes, whether for pleasure, fitness, or simply to get to and from work.

However, Department of Transport figures show the number of pedal cyclist casualties increased by 9.5 per cent in 2014, with a total of 21,287 cyclists injured on the UK’s roads.

Cyclists are particularly vulnerable when on busy roads, and when they are involved in accidents, injuries can range from cuts and bruises to serious head and spinal injuries, or even death.

Of those injured in the latest figures, 3,401 suffered injuries classed as serious.

In what circumstances may I be able to claim for compensation?

Should you or a loved one be injured in a cycling accident which wasn’t your fault, you may be able to claim compensation.

Our team of cycling accident compensation experts at Hudgell Solicitors have vast experience and expertise in supporting clients through the claims process.

Examples of cycling accident claims include:

  • Cyclists being knocked off their bike due to the actions of other road users.
  • Cyclists being hit by motorists who fail to see them in a left-hand cycle lane.
  • Poorly maintained road or cycle lanes, such as potholes or uneven surfaces, causing accidents and injuries.
  • Diesel spillages or debris being left in the road, causing a bike to skid or the rider to lose control.

How will Hudgell Solicitors support me in my cycling accident claim?

Our specialist team of solicitors will investigate the circumstances of your cycling accident fully and identify who was legally responsible for what happened to you, or your loved one.

Meet our personal injury specialist Matt Tuff

As a keen cyclist myself, with experience of cycling to and from work in London, I am all too aware of the increasing dangers facing people on the UK’s roads when they take to their bikes.

Cyclists are in a very vulnerable position when out on the roads, riding amongst busy traffic and often coming face to face with aggressive driving styles given the demands of modern life.

Accidents involving cyclists can often lead to serious, long-term injuries, from which our clients need a lot of support to help them not only recover physically, but financially too, as they can face lengthy periods off work with the injuries they suffer.

Our team of specialist road traffic accident solicitors helped more than 1,500 clients to claim compensation after being injured in road traffic accidents between December 2014 and November 2015, including almost 150 people who were injured when riding their bike.

What will compensation cover for me?

A successful compensation claim will take into account any pain and suffering as a result of your accident, but can also help cover the cost of any treatment, physiotherapy and rehabilitation support you may need to get you back to good health.

We will collect information on your financial losses, from the cost of treatments to travel costs, loss of earnings or anything else that has left you out of pocket, making finances one less thing to worry about.

If you have to stop working all together, we will also look to claim for your future losses, and cover the cost of any support or aids needed to help you within your home.

Claims can also cover things such as the cost of replacing or repairing your bike and any other equipment damaged in the accident.

What is the cost to making a claim?

We run all cases on a no win, no fee basis, which means you don’t have to pay a penny to get the legal representation you need and deserve.

Ultimately, the only time you’ll end up paying for legal costs is if your case is successful – and even then you will only ever pay an agreed percentage of damages as a contribution to costs.

There’s absolutely no risk involved in inquiring about your position, or your claim, so it pays to speak with an expert.
