Car Accident Compensation Claims

Driving is part of the daily routine and a necessity in the lives of millions of people, but with ever-increasing amounts of traffic on the roads, traffic accidents are sadly becoming more and more common.

Dealing with more than 1,500 cases a year, our team of specialists at Hudgell Solicitors see how it can have a massive impact on victims’ lives, at both home and work.

Over a 12 month period from December 2014, our specialist team of solicitors successfully secured more than £3m in compensation for road traffic accident victims.

Of those accidents, payments were secured for 632 drivers, whilst 482 were for passengers injured in cars they didn’t own.

Supporting people in so many cases each month, we see that even the smallest of accidents can cause major disruption and difficulty to lives, as victims can find themselves unable to work, whilst long-term injuries can prove life-changing.

Our team has the expertise and experience to help you if you have been injured in a road traffic accident, and successful claims can cover the costs of any treatment or rehabilitation support you may need to get back to good health.

Compensation settlements will also include the recovery of any lost earnings as a result, making finances one less thing to worry about.

I’ve been in a car accident, can I claim compensation?

Should you be involved in a road traffic accident as a driver, and the cause was the fault of others, you may be entitled to compensation.

Our teams will cut through the complexities of making a claim, establishing liability and then negotiating a final settlement for your injuries which fully compensates you and provides for your family.

We’ll even be able to pursue a claim for you if you have been involved in an accident with an untraced or uninsured driver.

Some examples of car accident compensation claims include:

  • Your car being hit from behind by another vehicle.
  • Your car being hit by a car emerging from a side road or pulling out without indicating.
  • A head-on collision caused by an oncoming vehicle crossing the centre lines or negligently overtaking another vehicle.
  • Another vehicle changing lanes without indicating.

What should I do if I have been in an accident?

It is advisable to call the police following an accident, even if the damage looks minor and the injuries don’t appear to require immediate medical treatment, as it ensures the accident is fully recorded and cannot be disputed.

It is also helpful to keep any documentation relating to the accident which may be of use in the case. Immediately after, take photographs of your vehicle and the damage caused, the scene, and any injuries, if visible, that you have suffered.

How Hudgell Solicitors will help after your accident.

We will take the time to fully understand the circumstances of the incident, the extent of the injuries suffered, and their impact they have on your life.

From this, we’ll create a Personal Support Package that’s tailored to you, ensuring you are taken care of by an assigned, specialist solicitor who will be available to you at all times.

You can be assured we’ll act in your best interests, investigating the full circumstances of your accident, supporting you through the treatment you need whilst independently assessing the physical, emotional and financial impact it has had on your life.

We place client care at the core of everything we do and are completely dedicated to helping people recover compensation following an accident on the road.

In cases involving serious injuries, we can obtain interim payments or arrange for some of your compensation to be paid early if you require things to aid your recovery, such as physiotherapy or specialist equipment.

Our strong partnership with both The Brain Injury Group and Headway, the brain injury association, provides further help and support to people affected by serious injuries.

Meet our specialist, Leanne Stephenson

“Fully understanding the impact an accident has on the lives of our clients, and their families, is paramount to ensuring we secure settlements which truly compensate victims.

“Many things can contribute to a road traffic accident happening, from outright dangerous and inconsiderate drivers to those who are perhaps too confident and therefore don’t drive with full concentration.

“The reality is that most people get into their vehicle each day without much thought for the danger involved. We are used to driving as part of the daily routine, it is a necessity, and we just assume we’ll be completely safe.

“Unfortunately, our work highlights to us each and every day that you can never guarantee this will be the case, and people involved in accidents require support and help in what can be very difficult times afterwards.

“The vast majority of drivers who need our help have never imagined the huge disruption and difficulties an accident can bring to their lives, and that is why we work so passionately to help people secure the compensation, and rehabilitation, they need.”

Case study

Hudgell Solicitors secured £35,000 compensation for a man who was unable to work for a period of time after suffering facial injuries in a car crash.

The 50-year-old father-of-two worked as both a medical professional and a part-time actor, with the injuries suffered in his accident leaving him unable to audition for roles in television programmes and advertisements.

He suffered a facial fracture which required surgery, and cuts to his face, as well as neck and shoulder injuries.

Although discharged after two days in hospital, the man had to return for further facial surgery on a second fracture, before a collection of blood then led to his stitches opening, leaving him with visible injuries.

Following legal representation from Hudgell Solicitors’ specialists, the man, who asked not to be identified, was awarded £35,000 compensation from the driver’s insurers, to compensate him for his injuries and lost earnings.

The actor, who had physiotherapy through the NHS following the accident, said he could not speak highly enough of how the case was handled.

“My solicitor was really professional and meticulous, and the firm was brilliant,” he said.

“My solicitor kept me informed of precisely what was happening, was very accurate and always responded to my queries.

“Quite often big law firms can be very impersonal, and my experience of big firms is that you’re not really talking to the person in charge of the case.

“That hasn’t happened in this case and I have been kept in touch all the way. It’s not been a really formal relationship as such, and I have been able to talk openly. I have been really impressed with the service and I’m very happy with the compensation secured.”
Making an accident claim. What’s the cost?

There’s absolutely no financial risk involved, so it pays to speak with one of our experts.
We run all cases on a no win, no fee basis, which means you don’t have to pay a penny to get the legal representation you need. Ultimately, the only time you’ll end up paying for legal costs is if your case is successful – and even then you will only ever pay an agreed percentage of damages, as a contribution to costs.
