Expertise and key strengths
I am fortunate in being able to build strong relationships with my clients and ensure that I guide them through the claims process to achieve a successful conclusion. It is very important to me that I give my clients clear advice in order to allow them to make informed decisions. I have met a wide variety of people in my career and understand that each client can react differently to an injury or an arrest and I therefore treat all of my clients as individuals and run their case accordingly.
I studied Law at Sheffield Hallam University and then returned to my home in Grimsby from where I commuted to work for a law firm in Hull. I worked as a fee earner in the Personal Injury Department and then continued in the same role in the same department at Hudgell Solicitors from October 2014. I recently moved from PI into the firms growing Police and Civil Liberties Department.
Proudest professional achievement
I am proud of many of the cases I have handled in my 10 years as a fee earner. However, there is one that stands out as being particularly memorable for me. The case involved a client who unfortunately suffered the loss of her thumb whilst working at a stable yard. She was asked to hold a horse while it was having some treatment carried out on its hoof. Unfortunately, my client was not made aware that the horse had already been temperamental with the same treatment the previous day and had had to be sedated on that occasion. As she was holding onto a rope which was attached to the horse it reared up and traumatically amputated her thumb. The injury had a significant impact on my client and she was unable to return to the same role, which she had a passion for, due to both her physical and psychological injuries. I was successful in securing a six figure sum for the client and continued rehabilitation post-settlement.
Claim against Met Police. Apart from when purchasing property, I have virtually no experience of working with solicitors. I found both solicitors I worked with friendly and helpful, and particularly Samantha Thompson.
