Get to Know Rosie

Rosie joined Hudgell Solicitors in September 2020 as a New Claims Advisor and then became a trainee solicitor in our Civil Liberties department.

Rosie has assisted the team on a number of cases involving police assault, unlawful arrest and human rights breaches as well as supporting families at inquests where an individual has died under the care of the state.

Rosie also continues to assist the team dealing with compensation claims arising from the Post Office Horizon Scandal.

Career Highlights

I assisted the legal team representing the family of Lewis Skelton, who was fatally shot by a Humberside Police officer in 2016. Following our representations on behalf of the family at inquest, a jury concluded that Lewis had been unlawfully killed. This verdict was then upheld at a Judicial Review hearing after the Humberside Police officer challenged the coroner’s conduct of the hearing.

I have also been part of the team representing a number of former sub-postmasters across England and Wales who were victims of the Post Office Horizon Scandal. The case has been labelled ‘one of the biggest ever miscarriages of justice in the UK’.

It has involved working to secure compensation for malicious prosecution on behalf of those clients who were wrongfully convicted of theft/false accounting and have since had their convictions overturned. Interim damages of £100,000 were secured in the majority of cases.

I have also been involved in assisting individuals that are pursuing a compensation claim through the Post Office Historical Shortfall Scheme. The scheme was set up to compensate those individuals who were not wrongfully convicted as a result of the Horizon Scandal, but still suffered financial and psychological harm.
