Working as a catastrophic injury lawyer is both stimulating and rewarding. People turn to us at what is usually the lowest point of their lives but we can use our expertise to make a really positive difference for them in terms of securing a comprehensive, tailored rehabilitation package and then ultimately an excellent financial settlement for them, knowing that it has set them up for the next stage of their lives.

To be able to see what you have achieved for people is really special and I am proud of the work we do at Hudgells.

Get to Know

Mark has led an extremely broad range of high value serious and catastrophic injury cases throughout his career, having qualified as a solicitor in 2002.

His expertise includes leading all types of claims causing spinal cord injury, tetraplegia, complex and serious fractures (including spinal fractures), amputations, chronic pain, psychiatric injury and traumatic brain injury.

Mark is highly experienced in leading claims for injured motorcyclists, many of which have had seven-figure compensation values.

He has also dealt with fatal accident cases and has represented clients and their families at Inquests, clinical negligence matters, military claims, animal attacks, claims against the police, accidents on ships as well as a number of cases where accidents happened abroad.

Mark has previously represented a number of victims of the Didcot power station collapse where serious psychiatric injuries were sustained, and now supports the victims of the Manchester Arena bombing.

Mark understands how daunting and stressful it can be for a person who has suddenly suffered a life-changing injury and from the first meeting strives to offer support, guidance and excellent legal advice to seek to secure funding for the best rehabilitation as well as interim payments in the early stages of a claim whilst working closely with case managers and the rehabilitation team.

Career Highlights

I have successfully settled many cases on behalf of my clients for high six-figure sums and for seven-figure sums.

I have secured a £3.2m compensation settlement for a client who suffered an amputation and who required lifelong provision for specialist prosthetics, care as well as single-level accommodation.

In another case, I secured a £1.2m settlement for a client who suffered a traumatic brain injury.

I was also part of the team that secured a settlement in excess of £7m for a client who was rendered tetraplegic following the accident where the issue of liability was fiercely contested. He required substantial lifelong provision for care, specialist equipment and transport as well as single-level accommodation. It was necessary during the claim to make an Application to the High Court at the Royal Courts of Justice in order to secure a six-figure interim payment to allow him to access rehabilitation.

Other settlements in recent years include securing £800,000 and £589,000 for clients with traumatic brain injuries, securing a £650,000 sum for a client who suffered with chronic pain, a £589,000 sum for a client who had serious orthopaedic injuries and a £490,000 settlement for a client who suffered a serious orthopaedic injury and traumatic brain injury. This case was settled by negotiation where there was still a denial of liability.
