Expertise and key strengths
I am a dual-qualified solicitor and physiotherapist and am able to draw on my medical knowledge and clinical experience, particularly when discussing the often complex medical issues with expert doctors and other health care professionals, who are instructed to comment on the care clients have received.
I have developed a niche area of expertise in acting for professional sports men and women who have received negligent medical care following injury. This can impact significantly on their performance and at worst can lead to the end of their career and substantial loss of earnings.
My natural empathy and compassion are combined with a tenacious approach to litigation, ensuring that my client’s questions are answered, poor decisions and failings by medical professionals are robustly challenged and that my clients are fully compensated for their losses.
I practised as a physiotherapist for 10 years and retrained to qualify as a solicitor in 2002 specialising in medical negligence since qualification. In 2012 I set up my own boutique medical negligence firm and in June 2017 joined the medical negligence team at Hudgell solicitors in London.
Proudest Career Achievement
I have recently settled my first seven figure settlement on behalf of a client whose husband died as a result of negligent mental health care. I represented my client at the inquest into her husband’s death and following this brought the claim against the NHS Trust for their serious, negligent failings. Although bitter sweet, the settlement has provided financial security for my client and her young daughter.
“Josie demonstrated fantastic professionalism throughout and was patient and understanding. This left me with a wonderful sense of importance as I always felt my voice was heard. Without her guidance and knowledge the case would not have been won, for which I will always remain truly grateful. At every step I was supported, reassured and continued to receive solid advice. This was by no means a straightforward or easy case. Josie worked really hard I am incredibly impressed and thankful.” – Client
