Expertise

Gemma has been part of the Hudgell Solicitors team since 2010 and deals with a variety of medical and hospital negligence cases including delayed diagnosis and misdiagnosis of cancer, surgical errors, sepsis claims, misdiagnosis of conditions resulting in fatalities, dental negligence and care home abuse and neglect.

I am proud of the work we do to achieve positive outcomes for our clients. It gives me great satisfaction to help and I feel particularly proud when I am able to bring a successful conclusion to what has been a difficult time in a client’s life.

Having stated my legal career at Hudgell Solicitors in 2010 as a legal secretary I was fortunate to work alongside senior solicitors within the firm’s clinical negligence department and gain a great understanding of not only the claims process, but also gain insight into what our client’s want and need from a legal representative dealing with their case.

I feel my strength lies in my communication with my clients as I always ensure the process is kept as simple as possible. I work hard to ensure the legal process runs as smoothly as possible, even if challenging cases.

Significant Cases

I secured substantial damages for the family of a 72-year-old man who died after developing sepsis which was missed by hospital doctors. This was obviously a sad case and in situations like this, no amount of money will ever make up for such a devastating loss of a loved one. However, as part of the case I was able to demonstrate clear failings in processes which meant swab tests were not checked. If they had appropriate action would likely have been taken and his death would have been prevented. In cases such as this I feel our role is crucial in ensuring such mistakes are fully investigated, and lessons learned to improve future treatment and care.
