Litigation Executive, Abuse
I have worked in the legal sector since early 2017 in a paralegal role, although I also interned in New Orleans at a non-profit law office for 5 months in early 2016. My previous role and experience was in family law. I now work in the abuse department at Hudgells handling civil litigation abuse claims, including child abuse, as well as currently dealing and providing assistance with the Windrush Compensation Scheme. The types of claims I handle are claims under part of a scheme, stand-alone civil ligation claims, or those in a group action.
In dealing with claims within the abuse department, this comprises of clients who have been failed by public authorities and those who are meant to protect and care for them. Many of my clients have been victims of traumatic and distressing experiences in their past, and during their formative years of childhood. A number of them have had their lives torn apart as a result of the abuse and neglect which they have suffered. It is imperative to hold public authorities accountable for their actions and to seek justice for my clients. It takes a great deal of courage and humility for clients to come forward and speak about what they have been through, and so I therefore strive to provide a friendly, patient and approachable service to make them feel more comfortable. It is my ethos to secure damages and compensation for my clients, but also to hold authorities to account to try and provide a catalyst for change and ensure that measures are taken to prevent such abuse, and to ensure that people are safeguarded by those bodies who are meant to protect them.
I recently had a case in which I was able to obtain an additional £18,000 for a client under the Lambeth Redress Children’s Home Scheme, providing him with just under a £100,000 award for damages.
