Associate, Clinical Negligence
Caroline qualified as a solicitor in 2009 and has specialised solely in clinical negligence litigation since that time.
Caroline acts on behalf of clients who have suffered serious and life-changing injuries and is instructed in a number of cases involving birth injury and still birth, delay in diagnosis of cancer, cauda equina syndrome and represents clients with complex dependency claims in fatal cases.
Clinical negligence claims are inherently complex in nature and can take several years to reach a conclusion. It is important to understand my client’s objectives, which may not always be for financial redress, but who also want to understand why something has happened to them or a loved one, and how this can be avoided in future.
Providing clear, thoughtful advice, so my client understands the process and the evidential issues we need to address is paramount.
I secured £1,050,000 in damages for a client who required an above knee amputation as a result of a failure by his GP to recognise the symptoms of critical limb ischaemia. I obtained expert evidence from 8 medical experts in the fields of general practice, vascular surgery, cardiology, accommodation, rehabilitation medicine, prosthetics, care and occupational therapy and forensic accountancy to support the case.
A seven-figure settlement was obtained for a client who suffered a delay in diagnosis of cauda equina syndrome resulting in a very significant and life changing injury.
“From the moment that I engaged Hudgell Solicitors, my solicitor Caroline Murgatroyd was by my side to steer me through the unfamiliar process of litigation; and it was only through her sheer dedication that my highly complex case, requiring the input of countless expert witnesses, was successfully resolved within a period of just under six years.
“Litigation by nature is a frightening and emotionally troubling experience. Thankfully, Hudgell Solicitors were there when I needed them and I am truly glad that I had Hudgell Solicitors and Caroline Murgatroyd on my side.”
