It was wonderful to spend some time with the team at Air Ambulance Kent Surrey Sussex this week and learn more about this crucial, life-saving and truly inspirational charity organisation which saves so many lives in the south of England.
Hudgell Solicitors are again supporting the ‘Air Aid Ball’ in June, a biennial fundraising event which has helped raise more than £350,000 towards this life-saving service over the past 12 years.
That figure may initially sound like a lot of money, but each and every penny – and many more – is needed.
It costs £3,700 every time the air ambulance responds to an emergency situation, and this is not a service being funded by the Government.
People may think air ambulances are rarely called into action, but nothing could be further from the truth. Last year alone, Air Ambulance Kent Surrey Sussex was called out to help more than 2,000 people in with life-threatening conditions.
This equates to an average of six emergencies every 24 hours across the counties of Kent, Surrey and Sussex – and an annual running cost of more than £11.4million each year.
Without continued donations, fundraising and support, the cost would be much more severe.
This cost would be many, many more lost lives.
Crews available 24 hours a day to reach emergencies in 25 minutes
By having the air ambulances and their crews of pilots and medical teams available 24 hours a day, they are typically able to arrive at the scene of a life-threatening emergency within 25 minutes of being called into action.
As a law firm which specialises in supporting people who suffer catastrophic, life-changing injuries and helping them on the road to recovery, we know at Hudgell Solicitors that every second is precious in terms of providing the right medical response, care and support.
Without services such as this, that first step on the road to recovery may be one many would be denied the opportunity of taking.
People often need emergency blood transfusions to help replace what they have lost or complex surgery to enable them to breathe or prevent further injury when the air ambulance arrives.
The medical teams have to work in all weathers and environments, including at night and potentially in fields, woods or on remote pathways, yet they are always ready to respond, make immediate decisions and take actions which can ultimately prove to be the difference between life and death.
One of the most rewarding aspects of our work as specialist personal injury lawyers is that we help people to rebuild their lives, often from a position where they feel almost everything has been lost.
We give people support and hope when they need it most – and that is exactly what Air Ambulance Kent Surrey Sussex do too, every single day.
They are there for people and families who are facing the toughest times of their lives, helping them to come through it.
For those very reasons we are delighted to offer our continued support, and we hope that this year’s ‘Air Aid Ball’ is a huge success once again.
