Supermarket Fall Leads To Compensation For Shopper

A shopper from Hull has received compensation for pain and suffering following a nasty fall in her local supermarket.

A shopper from Hull has received compensation for pain and suffering following a nasty fall in her local supermarket.

Cindy Thompson was in the Asda store in Mount Pleasant, Hull, when she tripped over some metal studs which had been mistakenly left there following repairs to flooring in the store.

She carried on with her shopping but soon had severe pain in her foot and ankle. Members of the store’s first aid team were called and referred her to hospital where examinations revealed she had torn a ligament in her ankle.

Cindy has been awarded £3,775 for the pain and suffering she experienced after the fall 18 months ago.

Cindy said: “I was walking around the store when I suddenly stumbled and fell forward onto my trolley. A few minutes later I experienced sudden sharp pain in my ankle and foot and so I alerted a member of staff.

“The staff were extremely helpful and quickly sat me down and called the manager and a first aider. I was taken to hospital and told I’d torn a ligament in my foot.”

Cindy continues: “It turned out that some metal studs had been mistakenly left in place after part of the floor had been repaired. The area was quickly cordoned off to protect other shoppers.”

After her fall, Cindy turned to personal injury specialists Neil Hudgell Solicitors for help in fighting a claim for compensation for the pain and suffering Cindy experienced through no fault of her own.

Personal Injury expert Lauren Dale, who handled Cindy’s claim, said: “Members of the public expect to be able to shop in safe and secure surroundings. A mistake in clearing up after in-store repairs had been carried out meant my client experienced a nasty accident which gave her a lot of pain and discomfort. We’re pleased to have won this case for our client.”
