A 17-year-old moped rider suffered a serious shoulder injury due to oil being left on a busy road outside a bus depot. The oil caused his bike to skid when breaking, throwing him to the floor. The injury had a long-term impact and could affect his working career, whilst it has also forced him to quit playing rugby.
Legal process
Hudgell Solicitors acted on behalf of the rider in a road traffic injury claim, pursuing damages on his behalf from the insurers of the bus company. Liability was admitted by the bus company at an early stage without the need for a hearing in court and a settlement offer was agreed with our client.
Settlement
Damages of £28,000 were paid to our client. This payment reflected his pain and suffering, but also took into consideration that his injury, which prevented free and full movement of his shoulder, could have an impact on his employment chances in later life as he works as a joiner.
Hudgell Solicitors comment
Personal injury specialist Kirsty Hodgson said: “We were pleased that the bus firm admitted liability and that we were able to recover a substantial damages settlement which reflects the longer term problems this injury could cause for our client.”
Client Comment
“I am ecstatic with the financial settlement. I can’t thank Hudgells enough, they have been fantastic. It was all explained to me throughout and I was informed that I should be compensated for the future impact the injury may have with regards work. I was kept informed at all times. As I say, the result was really pleasing.”
