Hudgell Solicitors supports 1,500 victims of road traffic accidents in 12 months

Hudgell Solicitors has successfully supported more than 1,500 victims of road traffic accidents across the UK over the past 12 months.

Hudgell Solicitors has successfully supported more than 1,500 victims of road traffic accidents across the UK over the past 12 months.

It comes as we continue to support national road safety campaigns, and recently published the results of our own market research into driver attitudes in a bid to raise awareness around dangers on the roads.

Our figures show that over the 12 months from December 2014, Hudgell Solicitors’ specialist road accident compensation claims team has supported 632 drivers injured in accidents, as well as 482 people who were passengers in cars they didn’t own.

Cyclists and pedestrians also remain at high risk when out on the increasingly busy UK roads, with 143 cyclists benefitting from the experience and knowledge of our team over the past 12 months, as well as 129 pedestrians.

Last month, research conducted on our behalf made national headlines, as almost a quarter of drivers surveyed admitted to driving the morning after drinking, fearing they may still be over the limit.

We have also supported the campaign of road safety charity Brake in 2015, which has called for a national ban on hands-free calls in cars.

This follows research which suggested that those who are talking at the wheel are four times more likely to have an accident, due to not giving their driving their complete attention.

Jane Woodcock, a specialist in handling road traffic accident claims at Hudgell Solicitors, revealed that in total, the firm had secured more the £3m in damages for the 1,500 clients.

This is money which will help many recover losses suffered as a result of their injuries, such as time off work, as well as helping them towards their physical recoveries.

However, he said the stats also highlighted the need for continued campaigning for better safety measures, and greater awareness amongst drivers, cyclists and pedestrians to take greater care, particularly as we are approaching the period of year which usually brings the most challenging driving conditions.

“How safe you feel on the roads probably depends upon what kind of transport you are in, and how familiar you are with the surroundings,” said Mrs Woodcock.

“Many people will go out onto the roads each and every day confident they’ll be completely safe, but our work unfortunately highlights that you can never guarantee this will be the case. The vast majority of those 632 drivers who have needed our help probably thought they would never do so.

“Many things can contribute to a road traffic accident happening, from outright dangerous and inconsiderate drivers, as were highlighted in our recent survey into drink-drive habits, to those who are perhaps too confident and therefore don’t drive with full concentration and are more likely to have a quick look at their mobile.

“Given the increasing pressures in modern life, and a society where everything is rushed, we have felt it important to support initiatives calling for improved safety measures across the country, and to help highlight some of the dangers we see causing serious injury every day.”
