As we mark Baby Loss Awareness Week (9-15 October 2024), we’re continuing with our ‘Life After Baby Loss’ campaign, encouraging improvements in the NHS and supporting several charities as they help bereaved parents.
This year marks the 22nd anniversary of the annual awareness week and is an opportunity to break the silence around pregnancy and baby loss. The week also provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the impact of baby loss, the importance support plays in the ongoing bereavement journey, of the vital work that is needed to improve pregnancy outcomes and to save babies’ lives.
Hudgell Solicitors support many charities including House of Light and the important work they do to support bereaved families.
Baby Loss Awareness Week aims to make sure even more people understand the impact that pregnancy and baby loss can have, and together we can break the silence, so people know there is a community of people who care, so no-one feels alone with their loss.
Since 2010 another charity Sands has played a crucial role throughout the UK providing help and support for bereaved parents and families. They strive to improve the care available for grieving parents and promote research to reduce the loss of lives.
The work Sands and House of Light do to support families is something we feel very passionate about.
To mark Baby Loss Awareness Week, members of NHS Humber Health Partnership’s Pastoral and Spiritual Care Team have been working with SANDS, the Still Birth and Neonatal Death charity, and midwifery staff across the region’s hospitals to arrange a series of special services.
The event concludes with a “Wave of Light” to remember all the babies gone too soon with the lighting of a candle. Iconic buildings will also be illuminated around the UK in pink and blue as part of the global Wave of Light.
This annual campaign is a positive step in breaking the silence and raising awareness for families in need of support. However, much more is needed to tackle the issues surrounding baby loss in the UK.
