A charity golf day held as part of Hudgell Solicitors’ 25th anniversary celebrations has raised £10,500 for the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA).

Held at Hull Golf Club, the event was a sell out with 18 teams having accepted the invitation for the event in aid of SIA.

The day began with an early breakfast and welcome before play started. The test of course skills included a ‘beat the pro’ hole, the longest drive and nearest the pin, all aiding the charity fundraiser day.

After play there was lunch and raffles along with presentations at the clubhouse where the winners were presented with prizes which included a £500 case prize for the winning team, vouchers for the pro golf shop, corporate hospitality at a Hull KR home game, and a golf bag for the best dressed!

Alison Hayward, SIA’s Partnerships Manager, which was the benefiting charity, said, “thank you to Hudgell Solicitors for inviting me to be part of your 25th year anniversary golf day. Your donations from today will make a big difference to the people we support.

“Earlier in the day I spoke to a gentleman whose son has a spinal injury and he didn’t know about us before, but now he does and his son will now get access to our services which will make a huge difference to his life.

“That alone has made today extremely worthwhile for the charity. We are extremely grateful to Hudgells and today will now get us even closer to the £1m target for Martin’s Mountain.”

Every four hours in the UK someone sustains a spinal cord injury and SIA is the go-to place to be connected to a network of people, organisations and services they urgently need.

Around 2,500 people sustain a spinal cord injury every year and SIA strives to ensure they get the best possible care in an NHS spinal cord injury centre.

The funds raised at the golf day will go towards SIA’s goal of raising £1 million as part of the Martin’s Mountain Appeal to support more people affected by spinal cord injury.

Martin Hibbert survived the 2017 Manchester Arena terrorist but suffered a serious spinal cord injury. Despite this, Martin was determined to turn tragedy into something good and took on the £1 million for the charity appeal, which is supported by Hudgell Solicitors.

The Martin’s Mountain Appeal aims to promote the impact that a spinal cord injury can have; funds raised will go towards supporting more people affected by spinal cord injury.

Helping to inch closer to that £1m mark, the ‘silver sponsors’ for the charity golf day were Trinity Chambers, a leading sets of barristers’ chambers in the North of England and Forensic Collision Investigation and Reconstruction (FCIR), which specialises in road traffic collision investigations.

Neil Hudgell, who joined the CIA Properties team, said, “We’re so very grateful and humbled that so many of our business partners who have worked with us and supported us over the last few decades wanted to join us today for this 25th anniversary fundraiser.

“We could not have grown without you, and again today, we could not have raised this money for charity without you; our communities will be the stronger for our enduring partnerships.

“We are delighted to help raise further funds for the Martin’s Mountain Appeal. Martin is an inspiration to his fellow attack survivors, and many of our other clients who are facing the same long path to recovery after suffering life-changing injury, all at Hudgell Solicitors are delighted to offer our complete support to Martin’s fundraising efforts, and his goal of making specialist spinal treatment more accessible to all.

“Martin is aiming to do something truly special, and as a firm we have been inspired by him to set our own ambitions high with a target of raising £100,000 ourselves towards the cause.”
