The local business community is being asked to come together to help Hudgell Solicitors celebrate 25 years of success – and raise vital funds for those who suffer serious spinal injuries – at a charity Golf Day later this year.
Marking a quarter of a century since established in 1997, Hudgells are staging a number of events across the year to mark the anniversary.
Today, plans for a charity Golf Day have been announced, from which all money raised through team entries and sponsorships will be donated to the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA).
It is part of an ongoing commitment by the firm to help client Martin Hibbert, who is vice chairman of the SIA, raise £1 million for the charity.
Martin was one of the closest people to the terrorist blast at the Manchester Arena bombing in May 2017 and was left paralysed from the waist down.
As part of the Golf Day at Hull Golf Club, in Kirk Ella, teams of four will be treated to breakfast on arrival, a two-course lunch, guest speakers and a round of golf at what is regarded as one of the most highly regarded clubs in the north of England.
Thousands supported by charity’s work
Helen Saunders, marketing manager at Hudgell Solicitors, says it is a chance for businesses and individuals that have worked closely with the firm over the years to come together and raise a large amount of money for those who find themselves badly in need of support.
“We’re really excited to announce our plans for our charity Golf Day as we see this as a key event as part of our anniversary celebrations, and one at which we can hopefully raise a great amount of money for a really deserving cause,” she said.
“We are proud to have developed a reputation for providing the very best legal and rehabilitation support for those who suffer catastrophic, life-changing injuries. We have also seen first-hand how important the work of the SIA is for people who suffer spinal injuries, such as Martin.
“Statistics show that every four hours another person is paralysed, and the SIA supports thousands of people across the UK each year. It aims to be the go-to place for everyone affected by spinal cord injury as it can quickly connect them to the vast network of people, organisations and services they need.
“The Golf Day also provides us with a great opportunity to get together with people that we have worked with, and those who have supported our business over the years, to reflect on the journey that we have had as a firm and to celebrate where we are today.”
Ollie Buncombe, Special Projects Coordinator – Martin’s Mountain said “We are thrilled that Hudgell Solicitors has chosen the SIA as its beneficiary charity for the 25 year celebration Golf Day.
“We have received tremendous support over the past 12 months, including for Martin’s challenge to climb Mount Kilimanjaro with a team from the SIA next month in a specially adapted wheelchair.
“A team from the SIA will be taking part in the Golf Day and will be a great chance for us to share stories of the Martins Mountain event, the work of the charity, and of course to thank Hudgells for all their support and to congratulate all on 25 years of success.”
As part of the Golf Day, which will run from 8am-3pm on Monday, September 19, a number of prizes will be on offer for those taking part, including for first and second place, longest drive and closest to the pin. There will also be a ‘best dressed’ prize and a ‘beat the pro’ contest.
Teams of 4 cost £400 (£100 per person) + VAT.

About the SIA
The Spinal Injuries Association (SIA) was established in 1974 by Baroness Masham of Ilton, who became spinal cord injured following a riding accident in 1958. She is president today and an active member of the House of Lords and is especially vocal on health and disability, especially spinal cord injury.
Princess Anne has been a patron since 1984 and has faithfully supported the organisation as it has grown and developed over the years.
Last year the SIA’s services provided support to 13,300 spinal cord injured people and its support line handled 2,032 calls, the highest number to date. Its nurse specialists held 2,359 sessions with spinal cord injured people and volunteers contributed 1,500 hours of their time.
