Appointment of solicitor Rhea Javed adds further expertise and experience to Hudgells’ southern injury claims team

Appointment of solicitor Rhea Javed adds further expertise and experience to Hudgells’ southern injury claims team

Hudgell Solicitors has further strengthened its team of leading legal specialists to support clients in London and the South with the appointment of a lawyer experienced in multi-party, product liability, clinical negligence and serious injury work.

Hudgell Solicitors has further strengthened its team of leading legal specialists to support clients in London and the South with the appointment of a lawyer experienced in multi-party, product liability, clinical negligence and serious injury work.

Rhea Javed has joined having spent the past three years at Hodge Jones & Allen, where she worked on two major multi-party product liability actions – each involving more than 100 claimants – as well as handling multi-track and catastrophic injury cases.

The group claims saw her represent clients who developed a serious incurable neurological disorder after receiving the swine flu vaccination and people who needed revision surgery or suffered permanent loss of vision due to being given defective prosthetic lenses during replacement surgery.

Ms Javed has also led claims for negligent clinical treatment against NHS Hospital trusts, GPs and private surgeons, and has represented bereaved families at inquests in her time with her former firm.

Amanda Stevens, Managing Director for London and the South at Hudgell Solicitors, says the appointment of Ms Javed adds further strength and expertise to a team which is already recognised as a leader in its field.

“We are delighted that Rhea has joined our highly respected team in the South and she comes having gained valuable experience of working on two very large multi-party product liability cases at her previous firm in recent years, which adds strength in depth to the work we already do,” she said.

“Rhea has tremendous experience of handling the some of the most challenging kinds of injury claims and brings yet more experience and knowledge to our clinical negligence offering, which we have continually strengthened in recent years, ensuring we can offer a complete injury claims service to clients.

“Crucially, Rhea is incredibly passionate about delivering justice for all of those she represents, and it is that approach which gives me every confidence she will prove an invaluable addition to our team.”

Solicitor passionate about ‘being a voice’ for people in difficult times

Ms Javed, who qualified as a solicitor in 2017 and is also experienced in running personal injury claims, is a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) and Secretary of its Multi-Party Special Interest Group.

She worked as a legal advisor at the Citizens Advice Bureau before embarking on her legal career in 2012, and says she feels the move to Hudgell Solicitors has come at an ideal time.

“I’ve really enjoyed the work I have been involved in over the past three years with regards to the multi-party claims and the product liability cases, and hopefully that is an area of expertise which I can bring to the team at Hudgells,” she said.

“Those cases came to an end and it seemed an ideal time to look for a fresh start, and as Hudgell Solicitors are known for their experience and expertise I am really thrilled to be joining and looking forward to working alongside the team, learning from them and further developing my own skills.

“I know the firm is dedicated to righting wrongs on behalf of those it represents and that is what I have always found rewarding in the job.

“I am motivated by being able to help people secure some form of justice and to give them a voice. This can be in the most difficult of times, such as when they have lost a loved one and they don’t know who to turn to. We can ask the questions for them, and hopefully find them the answers too.”

Hudgell Solicitors’ southern team have been involved in a number of high-profile cases and investigations over the past 12 months, including solicitor Malcolm Johnson representing core participants at the national Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse.

He also currently represents a number of victims of the Windrush Scandal, and is instructed by Marilyn Logan, whose husband Philip was killed in the 2016 Croydon tram crash, to act on her behalf at the inquest into the accident.

Senior Solicitor Kent Pattinson was recently shortlisted in the category of Catastrophic Injury Lawyer of the Year at the national 2020 Personal Injury Awards, whilst Josie Robinson continues to lead the firm’s work representing women affected by mesh implant surgery.

Experienced lawyer Sharon Lam, who has represented many families in hearings and inquests with regards to clinical negligence cases, and Victoria Gofton, a former National Head of Clinical Negligence at Slater and Gordon, were also recruited to the team in the past 18 months.
