Travel litigation lawyer Paul McClorry has secured a prestigious role with the world’s largest trial bar after being elected as a new Vice Chair of the International Practice section of the American Association of Justice (AAJ).

Established in 1946, the AAJ is an international coalition of attorneys, lawyers, law professors, paralegals, and law students who aim to promote justice and fairness for injured people and safeguards victims’ rights – particularly the right to trial by jury.

Its network of worldwide members specialises in different areas of trial advocacy, providing lawyers with the information and professional assistance they need to successfully serve and protect people who have been injured in America and around the world.

Mr McClorry, who will mark his first year at the Leeds office of Hudgell Solicitors in August, is a specialist in cross-border litigation and will help to raise awareness of the AAJ.

On a day to day basis he has instant access to a network of legal specialists in every US state and can act as co-counsel for UK citizens who have been injured in the US.

Speaking about his appointment, Mr McClorry said: “I am honoured to have secured such an important international role, which I intend to use to promote the AAJ and its fight for a fair and effective worldwide justice system.

“Not only does it strengthen my personal relationships with other global legal experts, this position recognises the specialist cross-border representation that myself and Hudgell Solicitors are engaged in.

“My aim is to help the AAJ protect the democratic values which are inherent in the civil justice system, whilst supporting the work of attorneys who fight on behalf of people who have been injured because of the misconduct or negligence of others.”

Solicitor a specialist in representing people injured on holiday

Mr McClorry, who is from Manchester, started his legal career in 1999 and has headed up internationally-renowned travel litigation teams at Pannone and Slater & Gordon.

He has represented people who have been injured whilst on holidays in road traffic accidents, on aeroplanes, ships, trains and coaches. This has seen him act for many people who have sustained catastrophic injuries, families who have lost loved ones and in group action claims.

Mr McClorry is a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), the Pan-European Organisation of Personal Injury Lawyers (PEOPIL), the American Association for Justice (AAJ) and the Travel and Tourism Lawyers Association (TATLA).

He has a broad range of expertise, strong contacts with lawyers and insurers across Europe and America and is often contacted by the media for expert comment on travel litigation.

Leading legal publication the Legal 500 described him as ‘professional, patient and thorough’, whist the Chambers and Partners directory said he was ‘noted for his ability to handle cross-border personal injury claims’ which rest on jurisdiction and points of applicable law.
