I started my year with the Manchester Winter 10K around the Etihad Stadium, supported by a group of my running buddies from Hedon Fitmums.

My training plan for the Humber Bridge Half Marathon includes my weekly run at Hedon Fitmums, where I can push myself over smaller distances.

This is something I feel supports me when I go out for a longer runs. I try to get out for longer runs midweek or at the weekend when I have a little more time.

I completed my first 10 mile run on March 13th, with an average pace of 11 minutes and 30 seconds a mile.

I was pleased with this pace because it was comfortable for me. The main reason for the longer run was to build up my confidence knowing that I could keep a steady pace over the longer distance. I was unbelievably happy when I saw 10 miles on my watch and I was back home, as this meant that I could have a well-earned drink of water!

On April 10th I ran the Hornsea third as part of the Hudgell Solicitors team. I was extremely nervous walking up to the start line as this was the longest race I had done to date. The course was very hilly and the sun was beaming down on us, which none of us were expecting for this time of year.

I feel taking part in this event gave me a good idea as to how much further I needed to push myself in preparation for the Humber Half.

I have planned to continue running longer and shorter distances but I have also planned to run across the Humber Bridge a few times before the day, and to do a little bit more hill running, as I have been told that the Humber Half is a very hilly route.

With just over three weeks to go, plenty more training is ahead, and I’m looking forward to a great day and taking part in what is said to be a fantastic event.
