Hudgell Solicitors provides chance for 2016 Humber Bridge Half Marathon runners to win place in New York event

Hudgell Solicitors provides chance for 2016 Humber Bridge Half Marathon runners to win place in New York event

Runners taking part in the 2016 Humber Bridge Half Marathon will have an extra incentive for their training this year as a trip to the Big Apple – and a place in the New York City Marathon – is up for grabs.

The prize has been made possible by sponsors Hudgell Solicitors, and includes flights, accommodation and race entry.

A total of 28 runners – the first five men and women finishers in the Humber Half, and the best placed men and women from a wide range of age categories, will all be entered into a draw to win the trip to the States, and the place in the iconic race.

Race organiser John Curry, of Hull Rotary Club, who has previously run the New York Marathon himself, feels it is a great incentive for running enthusiasts to enter the 17th Humber Bridge Half Marathon.

“The New York Marathon is one of the most iconic races in the running world, with around 50,000 runners taking part, so it is a fantastic event to be involved in, the atmosphere is simply incredible,” he said.

“I’ve experienced this myself as took part years ago, it’s an event like no other. Not only that, we are offering someone the trip of a lifetime here. It is a very unique prize and one we are delighted to be able to offer.

“Importantly, we have thought about this carefully and devised a way in which runners of all ages have a genuine opportunity of securing the prize, from the young runners, to those over 60. The Humber Bridge Half Marathon is proud to be an event which attracts a wide age range of runners, and it is only right that runners of all ages have a chance of securing this prize.”

The 13.1 miles Humber Bridge Half Marathon will be staged on Sunday, June 26, with the New York Marathon on Sunday, November 6.

Neil Hudgell, managing director of Hudgell Solicitors, says the firm was delighted to fund the new prize for this year.

“When we met the organisers, there was a clear desire to grow the race and pull in more runners from further afield, and we hope this offer can help do that,” he said.

“The Humber Bridge Half Marathon has many competitors who run every year and come back repeatedly because they know it is a great course, superbly organised, and an event ran in a great spirit. We hope this offer will help attract some new runners this year, who will no doubt then keep coming back for many years to come.

“The aim of our sponsorship over the next three years is to help grow the event, attract more runners, and ultimately help it raise more for the many charities and good causes it supports.”

The Humber Bridge Half Marathon, which is organised in conjunction with the Rotary Club or Barton and with the support of The Smile Foundation, enjoyed a record year in 2015, with more than 2,100 runners raising a total of £38,000 for charities across the region.

To enter the Humber Bridge Half Marathon, which costs £23 for UKA affiliated runners and £25 for unaffiliated runners, go to www.humber-half.org.uk
