Big Adoption Day highlights need for loving adoptive homes for children and the excellent work of Coram children’s charity

Hudgell Solicitors is delighted to be supporting the UK’s first children’s charity Coram throughout 2019 in its work to help some of the country’s most vulnerable children and young people.

Hudgell Solicitors is delighted to be supporting the UK’s first children’s charity Coram throughout 2019 in its work to help some of the country’s most vulnerable children and young people.

Established in 1739 as The Foundling Hospital to provide a home for London’s forgotten children, it supports those who remain marginalised, ignored and invisible to society, including finding adoptive families for children in need of loving, permanent homes.

The charity’s excellent work and impact is being highlighted today as part of the national ‘Big Adoption Day’, which sees adoption agencies across England invited to open their doors.

It gives anyone interested in adopting the chance to find out more from agencies around the country about what is involved, and to hear about the range of support that is now available.

It is also a day when people can hear first-hand from people who have adopted on how adoption has changed theirs and their children’s lives.

Hudgell Solicitors chose Coram as one of its charity partners for 2019, donating an initial £5,000 to support key services and pledging to raise further funds though events and staff challenges held throughout the year.

Julian Hare, Head of Corporate Partnerships at Coram, who is based at their London campus, says such support from businesses is vital to ensure the charity can reach and support as many children as possible. He said:

“We were delighted when Hudgell Solicitors selected Coram to be one of their charity partners in 2019.

“The funds raised and donated throughout the year will go directly towards helping vulnerable children and young people, where Coram’s skills and services can make the biggest difference, creating change that lasts a lifetime.“The charity provides the care and support children and young people (from birth to 25) need to turn their own lives around, increase the skills that will help them succeed and build their resilience and self-sufficiency.

“Coram also develops new ways of tackling problems and influences policy in order to secure positive change in the systems on which the youngest and most vulnerable depend.

“As a charity we advance understanding of the issues facing children in care and those waiting for adoption, while simultaneously developing and delivering the services necessary to meet them.”

A central service the charity provides is adoption and post adoption support.

Because the number of children in care is today at the highest level it has ever been, this particular service urgently needs to find permanent loving homes for these children, something today’s Big Adoption Day initiative will seek to address.

“Coram pioneered Adoption Activity Days (AADs), in which children in care are given the opportunity to meet their prospective parents in activity-packed days,” added Julian.

“With a success rate of 1 in 4 finding their forever families during AADs, it is extremely important that we have support from businesses such as Hudgell Solicitors to keep supporting the charity in its mission to help children and young people in this and other ways.”

Helen Saunders, senior marketing executive at Hudgell Solicitors, said:

“As a business our staff were very passionate to support charities this year which make a positive difference to the lives of young children who are facing difficulties for a wide range of reasons.

“Coram’s mission is to provide better chances for children and we would like to take this opportunity to thank them for the difference they have made and continue to make in improving the lives of society’s future ambassadors.

“Every day it offers direct, practical help and emotional support to vulnerable children, young people, and their families.

“The Big Adoption Day aims to celebrate the success stories, but also reflect and highlight that there are many children currently waiting for adoption.

“Hopefully the events of today can mark the start of the adoption journey for many young people and help them take the first steps towards being part of a loving, family home.

“We feel it is important that businesses play a positive role in supporting great causes in favour of society’s most isolated groups, and our staff are certainly dedicated to doing all they can through fundraising activities throughout the year.

“We are proud to be in partnership with Coram and hope our efforts this year make a big impact for the charity, and most importantly the vulnerable children, young people and families they support.”
