Landmark rulings and settlements lead firm to industry recognition at 2018 Personal Injury Awards

Hudgell Solicitors has won further industry recognition for its achievements across the claims sector as it has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Claimant Team of the Year category at the 2018 Eclipse Proclaim Personal Injury Awards.

Hudgell Solicitors has won further industry recognition for its achievements across the claims sector as it has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Claimant Team of the Year category at the 2018 Eclipse Proclaim Personal Injury Awards.

The Awards, now in their 11th year, identify the highest standards of practice and representation of both claimant and defendant firms, celebrating excellence of both individuals and organisations.

Hudgell Solicitors’ shortlisting comes as representatives from the firm prepare to attend two further ceremonies later this month, as the firm has also been shortlisted for the ‘Medium Sized Law Firm of the Year’ at the Yorkshire Legal Awards, whilst founder Neil Hudgell is a finalist in the Private Practice Solicitor of the Year award at the Law Society’s prestigious Excellence Awards.

Judges of the Personal Injury Awards were seeking firms which had demonstrated a contribution to the wider legal community, had achieved impressive successes over the past 12 months, are led by effective and innovative management, have developed staff and demonstrated outstanding client care.

Awards shortlisting is another ‘huge endorsement’ of Hudgell Solicitors’ achievements

Chief executive Amanda Stevens says making a shortlist given the criteria sought by judges is a huge endorsement of the firm’s achievements.

“We are obviously delighted to once again be recognised as one of the leading claimant teams in the UK,” she said.

“This shortlisting follows the work of our litigation specialists being highly commended at The Lawyer Awards earlier this year, with our team preparing to attend the Yorkshire Legal Awards and with Neil shortlisted for one of the most prestigious honours in our industry.

“Over the past 12 to 18 months we have repeatedly won recognition from our peers across the claims sector for the work we have been doing, the way we have gone about running the firm and most importantly the success we have been having for our clients.

“This is another pat on the back for all at the firm and a huge endorsement of our work and skills,  particularly our talented team of legal specialists who have not only delivered such excellent results for our clients, but also those represented by many other firms. This drives us on to further innovate and lead the way.”

Judges impressed by track record of litigation victories

Judges took into consideration the impact of a landmark legal ruling at the Court of Appeal, secured by the firm, which means conditional fee agreements (CFAs) can now be validly transferred from one law firm to another.

Other highlights over the past 12 months considered included a £14.3m settlement for a client, now aged 17, who was left brain damaged after midwives failed to properly monitor his heart-rate during birth.

The firm’s track record of securing significant interim damages payments at an early stage for clients who suffer serious injury, long before admissions of liability are made, ensuring crucial rehabilitation and support can be provided at the earliest stage, was also highlighted.

This has included a High Court ruling to award £2.4m interim damages to a severely disabled 12-year-old girl. One of the highest interim payments following the change in discount rate, it was described as ‘life-changing’ for the girl and her family, who had struggled to find suitable accommodation to meet her needs.

A commitment to driving new areas of growth was also highlighted to judges, particularly the decision to launch a new business strategy as the firm celebrated 20 years in business, with a focus on developing key areas of work including civil liberties, abuse and travel litigation claims.

The Personal Injury Awards ceremony will be held at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate hotel on November 28. Representatives from Hudgell Solicitors will also attend the 2018 Yorkshire Legal Awards on October 11 and the Law Society Excellence Awards on October 17.

“We have a big few weeks ahead in terms of our work being held up as examples of excellence, so it is a period where I feel everyone at the firm can feel proud,” added Mrs Stevens.

“It is very difficult to be shortlisted in any of these awards, so to have three in such a short space of time is a wonderful achievement.”
