Hudgell Solicitors are delighted to be supporting the cinema premiere screening of a new film starring David Tennant – with all proceeds of the night going towards a charity campaign to provide new equipment for maternity services across the UK.
The film ‘You, Me & Him’ is the first by writer and director Daisy Aitkens, who like David Tennant is a campaign ambassador for Baby Lifeline charity’s ‘Monitoring for Mums’ appeal.
It is that direct connection which has seen the launch night being dedicated to raising vital funds, with Baby Lifeline chosen as the official charity partner.
Aitkens and former Doctor Who and Broadchurch star Tennant will both introduce the film on the launch night in Birmingham later this month, and answer questions from the audience.
Described as a ‘comedy drama’, the film is about a lesbian couple at different points in their lives. The plot sees high-powered lawyer Olivia (Lucy Punch) want to start a family as she approaches 40, but her free-wheeling younger partner Alex (Faye Marsay) doesn’t share her urgency.
Recently-divorced neighbour John (Tennant) creates a ‘tangled web of consequences and pregnancies’.
Judy Ledger, Founder and Chief Executive of Baby Lifeline, says the issues and topics covered in the film closely link to the work of the charity, and she is excited for the premiere at Birmingham’s Cineworld, on Saturday, March 31.
She said: “We are so proud to be part of such an exciting production and event and we are obviously thrilled to be chosen as the charity partner. It is fantastic to be linked to this film as the themes are so closely aligned to our work and it is a film which has both sadness and humour, all around the circumstances in which new life enters our world.
“The film has been written by and stars people who are passionate supporters of Baby Lifeline and our Monitoring for Mums appeal, so we are of course very grateful for their fantastic continued support and the support of the producers Bad Penny Productions for giving us this unique opportunity to raise funds and awareness.
“We are of course again thankful for Hudgell Solicitors’ ongoing support and look forward to a great night being had by all.”
Others walking the red carpet at the launch, on Saturday March 31st at Cineworld in Birmingham, include fellow cast members Faye Marsay (who has appeared on televisions shows including Bancroft and McMafia), Georgia E Tennant (Dr Who) and Sally Phillips (Miranda and Bridget Jones’ Baby).
Celebrities from the world of music, television and radio have also been confirmed to be attending, including Peter Davison, Ingrid Oliver, Tessie Orange-Turner, Christian Brassington, Adam Paul Harvey, Jack Savoretti, Nick Owen, Jimmi Harkishin, Jack Cork, Heart West Midlands Breakfast presenters Ed James and Gemma Hill, Sarah Maple, Arabella Weir, Ainsley Harriot, Laura Rollins, Sarah Moyle, Ashley Rice and Bharti Patel from BBC’s Doctors.
Monitoring for Mums campaign aims to improve facilities and reduce number of lives lost
The ‘Monitoring for Mums’ appeal has been supported by Hudgell Solicitors since it was launched by the Baby Lifeline charity in September 2016.
It aims to raise a total of £5m in donations to fund the purchase of much needed specialist equipment on maternity and neonatal units across the UK.
Monitoring for Mums has already funded new equipment for many Hospital Trusts, including Buckinghamshire, South Warwickshire, North Bristol, The Heart of England, Birmingham Women’s Hospital, The University Hospital of North Tees and Wansbeck General Hospital.
Amanda Stevens, chief executive of Hudgell Solicitors, says the firm is delighted to be one of the events major supporters, alongside Cineworld. Film Birmingham, Heart Radio and the Park Regis Hotel.
She said: “The Monitoring for Mums appeal is a fantastic cause which aims to improve the facilities on maternity wards across the UK, part of Baby Lifeline’s continuing work to help reduce the many lives needlessly both lost and injured on wards each year, which could be prevented with better facilities and training.
“The incredibly important work of Baby Lifeline and this particular appeal is something which we at Hudgell Solicitors are all too aware of the importance of, as we see each and every week the need to reduce the numbers of lives lost and injured.
“It was why we established our relationship with Judy and Baby Lifeline and why we continue to offer our support. They are making a positive difference to improving maternity care.
“The fact that so many high-profile stars and personalities are ambassadors of Baby Lifeline, and the Monitoring for Mums appeal, speaks volumes about how its work and aims connect with so many people.
“We are sure it will be a wonderful night and one which will further help promote the appeal whilst raising vital funds to provide more much needed equipment up and down the country.”
