We have taken calls in recent days from a number of holidaymakers who say they became badly ill when staying at the Riu Karamboa Club Hotel and the Riu Touareg Hotel – illnesses which ruined their eagerly awaited holiday breaks.
Of course, sickness bugs can never be completely avoided. However, at such times holiday tour operators are responsible for ensuring holidaymakers are safe and that all steps are taken to prevent such illnesses spreading.
We are investigating the circumstances around these claims, as the people we have spoken to have talked of being hit by ‘violent diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach cramps and severe pains’.
One individual has told us they were still so ill on their return from holiday that their doctor signed them off work for a week, and that they are still feeling unwell more than a month after returning home.
Hygiene standards and approach to health and safety considered in holiday illness claims.
At Hudgell Solicitors, our specialists have vast experience in acting for people who have been affected by holiday illnesses, including individuals and group action claims.
In such cases, if it transpires there has been an outbreak within hotels that could have been prevented, holidaymakers might be entitled to claim compensation from their tour operator.
This is only right and proper if it is found that poor hygiene standards or a substandard approach to health and safety have led to illness spreading.
No matter what the outcome of investigations, without doubt becoming so ill on holiday will a have come as a massive blow to all of those affected.
