Legal claims against Yaser Jabbar, orthopaedic surgeon
Hudgell Solicitors represent families of children who have been treated by orthopaedic surgeon Mr Yaser Jabbar at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
The families of children treated by Dr Yaser Jabbar in the hospital’s orthopaedic department, between 2017 and 2022, are now being contacted directly with the findings of independent reviews into the treatment provided.
It follows a Royal College of Surgeons review which raised concerns that children had suffered ‘serious harm’, leading to the treatment provided to all 721 children by Mr Jabbar being independently assessed.
Hudgell Solicitors know from our vast experience of representing children, that when your child is undergoing treatment, it is a worrying time for your child and the wider family. We understand that when there are unexpected outcomes and complications following treatment, there is additional worry about what the future holds. We know from many of our clients who are bringing cases against Mr Yaser Jabbar and GOSH, that they feel let down.
Anybody who has concerns about treatment provided to their children by Dr Yaser Jabbar, in any clinical setting, should seek legal advice immediately to ensure their case is fully investigated and that they are well advised regarding seeking compensation for any harm and injury caused, whether that be in the past, or injuries which will impact upon a child’s future.
Concerns over Mr Jabbar's clinical decision-making
Our legal team are representing many families who have received letters from Great Ormond Street Hospital confirming that their children suffered harm as a result of the treatments provided by Mr Jabbar.
Unacceptable standards have been identified in his assessments, examinations, clinical decision-making, and treatments of patients.
We are aware of cases where children have suffered leg length discrepancies following inappropriate and unnecessary surgeries which will require further and prolonged treatment, and nerve injuries causing ongoing pain.
In one particular case, a child underwent an amputation after having been put through a series of procedures. In this case, a review of the treatment found that amputation could have been avoided with a different route of treatment.
There are also references to children being subjected to surgeries which a review panel from the RCS could see no justification for, with children undergoing procedures which brought them no clear benefit.
High percentage of cases where harm was caused
The review of individual cases, which is being conducted by independent expert surgeons, is expected to take 18 months to complete. This is a specialist area of orthopaedics with a limited number of experts.
In September 2024 it was reported that of the first 37 cases reviewed, 22 children were found to have come to some degree of harm, 13 of which were classed as “severe harm”, likely to include lifelong injuries.
Representing a large majority of claimants who were treated by Yaser Jabbar, our legal team of experts is dedicated to helping each person affected to receive the compensation they deserve for any suffering and harm caused.

Any medical negligence claim will likely be brought against Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust to seek compensation for injuries sustained as a result of any proven negligent treatment, the impact those injuries have on the patient’s quality of life, and any subsequent revision surgery required. Compensation for past and future financial loss such as the cost of care or therapy can also be sought.
Very often, injuries in children don’t materialise for several years or until adulthood, so whilst some patients are aware now that they may have suffered an injury, some patient’s injuries will only be discovered later in life.
Are there any time limits for bringing a Yaser Jabbar claim against Great Ormond Street Hospital?
Usually, medical negligence claims have a time limit of three years from the date the negligence occurred, or from the date that a person became aware of negligent treatment.
For under-18s, there is no time limit until they reach 18 when a 3-year claim period comes into effect. Children treated by Mr Jabbar effectively have until they are 21 to make a claim.
