Why we support Day One Trauma Support (DOTS) Charity
Hudgell Solicitors is proud of its partnership with the charity Day One Trauma Support (DOTS) – together we’re able to immediately assist those who’ve sustained serious injuries along with their families.
Our partnerships help to ensure our joint work is not just short-term, but that real legacies are left.
Day One’s vision is that everyone affected by major physical trauma is supported to navigate the challenges they and their families face without feeling alone.
Since 2014 the charity has provided its services to patients admitted to the Major Trauma Centre at Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust and allied members of the West Yorkshire Major Trauma Network.
Today Day One Trauma Support has a presence in six Trauma Centres across the country whose support extends beyond this and is available to everyone impacted by major trauma.
- Greater Manchester Trauma Hospital.
- Leeds and West Yorkshire.
- Liverpool and Merseyside.
- Middlesbrough and North Yorkshire.
- Newcastle and Tyneside.
- Sheffield and South Yorkshire.
At Hudgells we have a reputation for assisting in every possible way we can, from offering help to ease immediate worries such as work and family finances to pressing for the most suitable immediate and long-term treatment and rehabilitative care.
We also have a track record of securing early interim damages payments, helping ensure the earliest implementation of vital treatments, and covering the costs of essential home adaptations.
Helping DOTS in every way we can
Our partnership recognises not only the invaluable work Day One Trauma Support (DOTS) does but also the unforeseen difficulties many families find themselves in when a loved one is suddenly admitted to hospital with serious injuries.
When a loved one is admitted to a Major Trauma Centre there may be costs associated with travelling to see them in hospital and staying overnight in a hotel or B&B.
Thanks to a donation of £10,000 made to Day One Trauma by Hudgells, emergency funding is available to families and loved ones to cover the costs incurred including:
- Travel and accommodation .
- Parking.
- Clothes, food and toiletries.
- Cost of equipment needed to be discharged from the hospital, such as mobility aids not readily available through the NHS.
The funding supports families during the immediate aftermath of a life-changing injury.
The extra resources allow Day One Trauma charity to support more families across Hull and East Yorkshire, Greater Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield and York.
Each family’s circumstances are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and assistance of up to £250 a day could be available.

Paul Price supported by Hudgell Solicitors & Day One Trauma Support
Paul Price suffered catastrophic injuries in the Manchester Arena terror attack in 2017.
After being taken to hospital Paul spent the first 12 days in an induced coma and a further two weeks in and out of consciousness as he battled to stay alive.
Over the following nine months, he had 35 procedures for his injuries.
Paul and many other victims from that evening have since been supported by Hudgell Solicitors’ serious injury lawyers and Day One Trauma experts.
When it came to seeking legal advice Paul contacted Hudgells following a conversation with another Manchester Arena victim, Martin Hibbert, when they were both attending a rehab session.
“It’s honestly been like a family. Over the years the solicitors have been fantastic, and the legal support has been so good,” he says.
Paul is now an ambassador for Day One Support at Salford Royal’s Major Trauma Centre and also provides peer support to others.
“DOTS does what the NHS can’t and that’s help you transition from hospital to the real world.”
