Martin was explaining to me the group action for compensation and how I needed to be involved and so I did some research and then contacted Hudgells; that’s how the relationship started. It’s honestly been like a family. Over the years the solicitors have been fantastic, and the legal support has been so good.

‘A broken family which has been put back together’

Brandon Steeley

Brandon was just 15 months old when he suffered a severe brain injury in a car accident which also claimed the lives of his mother Jenny and six-year-old his sister. Brandon’s father Barrie gave up work to care for him and his other son Morgan, who was four at the time.

Over the past decade, we have provided a holistic support package to help Brandon’s recovery, independence, educational development and quality of life, ensuring obstacles at each step of his life have been suitably met, whilst also supporting Barrie and Morgan at all times.

How Lewis rebuilt his life after 35% chance of survival

Lewis Foster

Lewis suffered a brain injury in a motorcycle accident when he was just 17 years old. A specialist team was assembled to provide a comprehensive rehabilitation programme for Lewis, led by a dedicated brain injury case manager, with a focus on ensuring support was continually adapted to meet his needs as they changed throughout his recovery.

The help of a clinical neuropsychologist and neuropsychiatrist, covered as part of our legal support, was key in helping him overcome the struggle of accepting how his life has changed, giving him methods to cope with times of low mood. Lewis has used part of a £1 million damages settlement to purchase a new home for himself and his partner.

Getting back my independence

Angela Menzies

Angela was left fighting for her life after a car crash, breaking almost every bone in her body. She was told by doctors she may never walk again, but has. Over a period of six years, we helped ensure she had continued support and benefitted from an extensive rehabilitation programme of physical, psychological, and financial help from a multi-disciplinary team of medical and psychological experts.

A substantial interim payment enabled Angela and her family to buy a bungalow, providing easy access and adaptations to give her full independence at home, also funding rehabilitation, aids and equipment, before a full and final settlement was agreed upon.

Rehabilitation and compensation gives spinal cord injury victim a new start

Svilen Mihov

Svilen was left paralysed by the spinal cord injury he suffered in a road traffic accident. We provided specialist and dedicated support over five years to meet his and his family’s physical, psychological, medical, practical and financial needs. This included securing funding for a specialist spinal cord case manager to coordinate and oversee a dedicated rehabilitation package.

Interim payments funded a move out of the family’s two-bedroomed flat into more suitable rental accommodation, vital aids and equipment and an adapted vehicle for Svilen to drive. Part of a £4.6 million compensation settlement was used by the family to purchase a new six-bedroom home which meets their future needs, equipped with its own swimming pool and steam room.
