A TALENTED young Hull swimmer is preparing to live out her dream of competing on the international stage after Neil Hudgell Solicitors provided the sponsorship needed for her to compete in the European Disability Swimming Championships.
Natalie Moon, 18, won selection to represent Great Britain this September in Antwerp, marking the pinnacle of her impressive career in the water so far.
However, after the initial delight over her selection, she and her family were tasked with raising funds to cover her travel, accommodation and training camp costs.
Natalie’s retired father Arthur, 66, supports her in attending more than 20 galas and events a year, and had even looked at taking out a loan to fund her European adventure.
However, that financial worry has now been removed thanks to the backing of Hull-based medical negligence and personal injury specialists Neil Hudgell Solicitors, which has agreed to sponsor Natalie to the tune of £1,600, covering all costs.
A delighted Mr Moon, of Rosemead Street, east Hull, says the donation will give his daughter best possible chance of success.
“It is absolutely wonderful for someone to back Natalie in this way to ensure she can compete at these championships,” said Mr Moon.
“We applied for funding through the Neil Hudgell Solicitors Trust, but unfortunately Natalie didn’t qualify under the criteria as she is an individual, not a group or organisation. However, then we received a letter saying Neil Hudgell would be supporting her through the business directly. We were blown away by that gesture.”
Natalie, who swims out of the Kingston Upon Hull club and competes in a category for people with learning difficulties, has made a name for herself in British disability swimming, scooping five gold medals and a silver at the North East Region Disability Championships last year.
“Natalie is a great example of a young person with great motivation and a desire to succeed, and is deserving of support. As the Trust supports groups and organisations she didn’t qualify, but hearing her story, and her great achievement in making the championships, we wanted to help and have been delighted to do so,” said Mr Hudgell.
“We wish her all the best for the European Championships as she looks to become another champion to hail from Hull.”
Natalie said: “It’s very exciting to be selected to represent Great Britain in the championships, and it is very nice of Neil Hudgell Solicitors to provide the funding for me.
“I have loved swimming from being just four years old. I don’t mind the training, as you have to be committed to be successful. It makes me happy, and hopefully I can be the next medal winner from Hull and do everyone proud.”
