Medical negligence and personal injury specialists Neil Hudgell Solicitors have opened an office in London employing a ten-strong team led by highly regarded lawyers with a track record of success in many complex and high profile cases.
The opening of premises in Chancery Lane, in the heart of the capital’s legal district, marks another milepost in Neil Hudgell Solicitors’ ambitious strategy to achieve rapid, sustainable growth and further establish the firm as nationally recognised specialists in the sector.
The London move follows Neil Hudgell Solicitors’ recent acquisition of a substantial book of work, mostly high value and catastrophic injury cases, from Harris Cartier Solicitors Ltd which was placed into administration in October.
At the new office, Neil Hudgell Solicitors have drawn staff from Harris Cartier’s personal injury and medical negligence department and are looking to recruit ten more lawyers by Christmas to service new caseloads currently being acquired.
Neil Hudgell, founder and managing director of Neil Hudgell Solicitors, said: “The type of cases we’re acquiring and the skills and knowledge of the new additions to our legal team fit with our increasing focus on complex, high value personal injury and medical negligence cases.
“As well as offering greater opportunity to raise awareness of our expertise and niche offering, our London base enables us to serve better our increasing number of clients based in the south. Having a strong presence in London is also crucial to the development of our brand nationally.”
The Neil Hudgell Solicitors London office, comprising eight legal and two administrative staff, is headed by APIL accredited senior litigator Kent Pattinson, a highly experienced solicitor who specialises in catastrophic injury cases particularly spinal cord injury, brain injury and amputation. Other leading members of the team are Christopher Gooderidge, a solicitor renowned for his ability with difficult and complex cases, including cerebral palsy birth trauma claims, and Karen McCarthy, a widely known and respected clinical negligence practitioner who has obtained compensation for physical and psychiatric injury across a broad range of NHS and private sector cases. The multi-million pound settlements for catastrophic injury which the team has successfully achieved include “Biesheuvel v Birrell” (1998) where damages of £9.3 million were awarded at trial and more recently Ali v Caton and MIB, where damages were assessed at £2.3 million.
The skills of the London team complement the expertise of the 100 legal and administrative staff employed at Neil Hudgell Solicitors’ headquarters in Hull and other offices in Leeds and Bristol. The firm, established in Hull in 1997, has built its reputation on the high quality of care and service it provides to clients across England and Wales.
Neil Hudgell is also considering opening more offices in other major cities but the immediate priority is establishing the London office with a heavy weight marketing campaign scheduled for the New Year.
