Having recently completed the Hornsea Third Marathon, I have new found motivation for the Humber Half Marathon, which is now just less than three weeks away.
Marathon events are a new experience to me, and I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience so far.
I felt ill-prepared for the third of a marathon, but having run it all the way I surprised myself and realised the training and preparation put in to it wasn’t pointless whatsoever – every little helps.
I was extremely nervous as I didn’t know what to expect, but the buzz of all the other runners at the start line turned this feeling into excitement, and I was raring to go.
I am back on track in terms of training, increasing my distance every week. If I have a bad day where I feel as though I have no energy or motivation I will still go for a short run, as it still counts. It’s all about having a positive mental attitude.
I like a challenge, and a half marathon is certainly that! I am very competitive, especially with myself, and if I think I can’t do something then I am determined to prove to myself that I can. This has come from having a sporting background from a young age.
At the moment, with this being a new experience to me, my only goal is to finish the race, regardless of the time it takes.
From this I can then form a time goal to beat each year, as I will definitely be participating in the annual event for the foreseeable future.
I would encourage anyone to have a go and try something new – you never know, you may surprise yourself!
