WLM’s Money Champions programme is all about equipping people with the skills and confidence they need to manage their money well. We help people to build their financial and emotional resilience so that they can cope better in times of difficulty and avoid problems getting worse. As well as learning for themselves, we support our beneficiaries to share what they learn with others, spreading information and positive messages throughout their communities. Our work is really important in helping to prevent homelessness, where problems with benefits and rent arrears are some of the most common causes of people losing their homes.
With the introduction of the new social security benefit Universal Credit, the link between financial and digital inclusion is growing ever stronger. People need to be connected digitally to the world around them and need to be confident using the internet in order to manage their finances effectively. This is a key area of our work that we are seeking to expand.
Funding from the Hudgell Trust will be vital for us as we seek to reach more people and have more impact. We will create financial health packs for 100 people, which contain essential tools, resources and guidance to help them manage their day to day finances. We will also deliver a programme of interactive workshops helping to improve financial and digital capability and we’d love to involve members of Hudgell Solicitors staff in the delivery of some of these sessions.
