Hull City AFC are delighted to announce Debbie Peacock as the Tigers’ latest Community Hero, an award she’s received thanks to her efforts to help residents on Hull’s Greatfield Estate.
Debbie set up GRIN, Greatfield Residents Improving their Neighbourhood. The group gets members of the community to work together to make the estate a better place to live. GRIN runs a successful club for children at St Stephen’s Church, the group fund-raises to provide low-cost trips and days-out for families and it also provides training opportunities for residents.
Debbie, who works tirelessly to manage the group, was nominated as a Tigers’ Community Hero by Zailie Barratt, a volunteer at GRIN. Zailie was lonely when she first moved into the neighbourhood and Debbie welcomed her into GRIN which provided her with new friends and activities.
Debbie will be a guest at Hull City AFC’s home game against Leeds United on 6th March with tickets courtesy of club sponsor Neil Hudgell Solicitors, specialists in claims for personal injury and medical negligence.
Zailie said: “Debbie does all this work in her own time and never asks for anything in return. She also has to battle a number of illnesses and sometimes is unable to leave the house, but she carries on tirelessly working from her bed/ settee armed with her laptop and phone.
“Greatfield has had the “GREAT” put back into it and it is because of Debbie and the volunteers who make this estate a fabulous place and community to be a part of.” Debbie, who has been battling on-going long-term illnesses and is not able to work, said: “I am really pleased to be named a community hero especially after suffering from such dreadful illnesses. It’s not just about me – it’s about the work that the volunteers at GRIN do to make the community a better place.”
Neil Hudgell, Managing Director of Neil Hudgell Solicitors, said: “Debbie’s clearly a remarkable woman. I’m delighted she’s been nominated as Community Hero so we can thank her for the positive impact she’s had on Greatfield and its residents.”
