A cyclist who was seriously injured when thrown from his bike after being hit by a careless taxi driver has received a £130,000 settlement to compensate him for his injuries.
The man was left with an open fracture of his left leg which needed three operations and the injury has left him with lasting pain and mobility problems.
Following representation from Hudgell Solicitors, the cyclist has now received a settlement from the taxi driver’s insurers.
Personal injury specialist Samuel McFadyen said the victim had suffered life-changing injuries as a result of the collision.
The accident happened when the driver failed to give way to the cyclist and knocked him off his bike, causing him to be thrown across the bonnet of the taxi, before falling into the middle of the road.

The driver admitted responsibility and went on to face charges of driving without due care and attention.
The cyclist was taken to hospital by ambulance, where he spent 21 days and underwent three operations. He had an open fracture in his leg which then became infected, extending the amount of time he spent in the hospital.
Mr McFadyen said the victim has also suffered from psychological symptoms as a result of the cycling accident and has been left suffering chronic pain. He added
This was a split second moment in his life which will have lasting consequences. Fortunately, the insurers settled without the need to issue court proceedings and accepted full liability on behalf of the driver.
The amount reflects the physical trauma and the permanent repercussions that this cyclist will now have to live with for the rest of his life.
