Hudgell’s Civil Liberties Team

Iftikhar Manzoor, of Hudgell Solicitors’ Civil Liberties team, is instructed by Zoe Summers, the mother of Mr Yaqub’s two children.

He will represent her at the inquest alongside Barrister Hamish McCallum, of Nexus Chambers, London.

The Article 2 inquest is being heard before a jury, and in front of His Honour Judge Kearle KC, sitting as an Assistant Coroner at Leeds Crown Court. The Inquest is expected to last up to eight weeks.

The incident has been subject to an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), with the full report due to be published after the inquest has concluded. Mr Manzoor said:

This inquest has been a long time coming for my client and she hopes that it brings complete scrutiny and clarity as to the events of that day, how the police operation was organised and unfolded, and the reasoning behind the actions which were taken, which ultimately ended in the death of her partner, and father of her children.
