A pre-inquest review took place this morning at Hull Coroner’s Court into the death of Lewis Skelton, who was shot dead by officers from Humberside Police in November 2016.
Mr Skelton, 31, died after ‘two live rounds’ were shot at him in Francis Street, Hull city Centre, following calls from members of the public of a man carrying an axe.

Civil Liberties Solicitor Leanne Stephenson, of Hudgell Solicitors, who is representing Mr Skelton’s family in the actions against the police, said:
Lewis’ family will only get answers as to what happened that fateful day through a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the events leading to and surrounding his untimely death.
Today’s hearing has marked the start of a very important process for Lewis’ family – a process they hope brings clarity and full explanations as to how and why events unfolded as they did on the day he died.
Perhaps most importantly of all, they will look for this process to identify whether anything could and should have been done differently which would have prevented Lewis’ life from being taken.
