The firm, which specialises in claims for personal injury and medical negligence, has received the Enterprise award for its work with clients and the Yorkshire communities in which its offices are based and also for its business initiative www.webuyanyfiles.com which buys other law practices, caseloads and files.
Earlier this year, to mark its 15th anniversary in business, Neil Hudgell Solicitors which has offices in Hull, Leeds and Solihull, established The Neil Hudgell Solicitors Trust.
Every three months the Trust will award up to £15,000 – made up of 15 grants, each worth up to £1,000. In total, the Trust will give out funding of up to £60,000 a year. The aim of the Neil Hudgell Solicitors Trust is to encourage grassroots activities which support local communities and promote sport, health, wellbeing and educational aspiration. Already, the first 13 beneficiaries of the Trust have received grants totalling more than £11,000.
www.webuyanyfiles.com was established as part of Neil Hudgell Solicitors’ strategy to grow both organically and through acquisition. The website outlines the offer to other legal practitioners and has already led to Neil Hudgell Solicitors purchasing several law firms and substantial caseloads.
Neil Hudgell, Managing Director of Neil Hudgell Solicitors, said: “We are obviously absolutely delighted to receive this award.
“Hopefully, this recognition by Leeds and Yorkshire Lawyer of The Trust and its aims will raise awareness of The Trust and encourage more applications from organisations which have a direct benefit for their local community.
“Equally, this is an excellent opportunity to profile webuyanyfiles.com, a business initiative which is going from strength to strength. Changes in the way the legal profession operates are leading to some law firms deciding it’s no longer viable to continue. www.webuyanyfiles.com offers them a way to realise the investment they’ve made in their practices.”
The 12th annual Yorkshire Lawyer Awards, in association with Am Trust Law, saw Yorkshire’s legal community gather at Savile’s Hall, Leeds on 3 October to celebrate the achievements of the region’s diverse and thriving legal community. Calendar presenter Gaynor Barnes presided over the ceremony, which saw a strikingly diverse range of firms and individuals honoured.
As well as honouring excellence in the Yorkshire legal profession, the awards raised money for Yorkshire Cancer Research.
The Enterprise award was judged on the following criteria:
Those who have demonstrated initiative, innovation and achievement in their sphere of practice
Demonstrable dedication to their clients/firm
Demonstrable appreciation/recognition of their work by company/colleagues
Stand out from colleagues as a lawyer who has made a significant impact, taking into account any notable obstacles overcome, for example, particularly significant transactions or cases that you have handled
Non-fee earning but work related activities such as marketing, establishing new initiatives and broader contribution to the profession/firm
Contribution for the community such as pro-bono work
Supported by the Yorkshire Union of Law Societies, the Yorkshire Lawyer Awards is the premier event in the Yorkshire Legal Calendar.
